Mangle

2024-2025

A dialogue between contemporary dance and visual art

• Video/visual artist: Maryam Ghiasi
• Choreographer/dancer: Alireza Mirmohammadi

Mangle interrogates the tension between the body as an instrument of imposed legibility and the desire for opaque, irreducible presence, transforming dance into a site of layered resistance against predictability. Through the interplay of abstract video, sound, and choreographed gesture, the performer inhabits an inner terrain where imagination, desire, and dream defy the constraints of externally imposed norms. The audience is invited to navigate shifting temporalities and destabilized signs, moving from passive observation to an active, embodied participation that mirrors their own opacity back onto the stage. Ultimately, the performance collapses distinctions between self and other, reality and imagination, revealing a space where presence, complexity, and dissonance exist without explanation or reduction.
